Stepping Stones

The Creator and The Mission

Stepping Stones was created by Classroom Teacher turned Home Educator, Charlotte Fox, as a user-friendly collection of resources to support the teaching and learning of early reading and writing.

Charlotte is an experienced educator who has taught across a range of different contexts both in Queensland and New Zealand, including primary school, high school, special education, city schools, and rural/remote locations. While she has predominantly worked as an English/literacy teacher, she has also held roles such as Head of Curriculum and Deputy Principal, during which time she expanded her expertise as she attended Reading Professional Development, deep-dived into current research around teaching reading, researched dozens of different reading programs and implemented innovative change around the way reading was taught in the schools in which she worked. All of this led to improved reading outcomes for students in their early years of schooling.

Now, after 12 years in the classroom, Charlotte is a stay-home-mum and home educator, teaching her own children, and creating resources for herself and others. While other companies on the market provide complex school-wide programs, Stepping Stones was created as a simple alternative, perfect for home schooling (or de-schooling or unschooling) parents, travelling families, parents who want to provide extra support to their school kids at home, and teachers looking for a simpler alternative that leaves room for individual teaching style. No scripts, no spreadsheets, no complicated lesson plans; just an abundance of resources aligned to a practical Phonics Progression, and suggestions on how best to implement them. Pick and choose what you want to use, based on what works for you and your learners.
